The Hurricane Cocktail A ORIGINAL NEW ORLEANS DRINK RECIPE

Tropical Cocktails

Here´s two recipes for the classic tropical cocktail the Hurricaneone is the basic one and the other the common recipe today. The Hurricane cocktail is still being served at Pat O`Briens in New Orleans where the drink originated.

Hurricane Cocktail Drink

Basic Hurricane recipe:
• 1.5 oz light rum (Cruzan, Barcardi, etc.)
• 1.5 oz dark rum (Trader Vic's, Myers rum)
• 1 oz passionfruit juice or syrup (Trader Vic's)
• ¾ oz fresh lime juice
Shake in a cocktail shaker with ice until frosty and then strain into a Hurricane glass filled with ice.
Common Hurricane recipe:
• 1.5 oz light rum
• 1.5 oz dark rum
• 1 oz fresh orange juice
• 1 oz fresh lime juice
• 1/4 cup passion fruit juice, or 1 tablespoon passion fruit syrup
• 1 oz simple syrup (sugar water)
• 1 teaspoon grenadine
Stemmed cherries, and orange slice as a garnish
Ice cubes or crushed ice.
Hurricane Cocktail Mixing Instructions:
Half fill a Hurricane glass with crushed ice. Shake all ingredients and strain into the glass. Add more ice if needed and garnish with an orange slice and stemmed cherry.
